Filmmaker Vetri Maaran recently criticised what he described as ‘hate propaganda’ films during the trailer launch of Tamil film Neelira, based on incidents from the Sri Lankan civil war. His remarks sparked speculation online, with many fans believing he was referring to Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar franchise.
Speaking on stage, Vetri Maaran praised Neelira for telling a story without promoting hatred or violence. He said, “Until we tell our stories, our life is what our enemies say they are. We do not have the democracy to tell our own stories.” He commended the team for choosing to depict this narrative and acknowledged Rana Daggubati for supporting the film despite being from a Telugu-speaking state.
